Clour Me (my shop) Pink

Second blog of the day--making up for lost time... The drawers are in. The cupboard door isn't on. I decided not to do the latter, as the tremours in my right arm made putting the drawers in less relaxing than it could have been. I really didn't feel like fighting more with a screwdriver. So, I coloured the shop pink. OK, that may take some explanation. A few years ago, Ele and I were once again running the wood chipper for the community cleanup. Someone had cut down and brought in a large lilac bush. I immediately snaffled any pieces that had red showing at the core. After waxing the ends and letting the wood dry for a year or two, I cut it up into thin boards last year. Some of them had beautiful colour. For those of you that don't know, lilac's sapwood is an off-white, while the heartwood is light to medium pink, with lots of grain showing (the pink is quite streaky/banded). After the drawers were in, I still felt like doing something, yet needed something more relaxing. So, I flattened out approximately half of the boards on the jointer and then thickness-planed them, covering two parts of the shop with pink and white shavings. Luckily, the person that had cut it down left most of the logs just long enough for the planer. I'm sure some of you are wondering how that's relaxing, but it is. Nothing that needs to get done. Nothing that involves thought and planning (beyond checking grain direction). Just some light work revealing beauty in an interesting wood, and a little cleanup afterwards. When I do get energetic, I'll plan out some jewelry boxes or something to use the wood. But now, I'll watch the bad weather roll in as I sip my cider. Rainer
