Wireless, Part 2
So I took the first wireless access point back to Memory Express and got a replacement. The second Linksys Wireless-G Set up like a charm. I configured it three times to be sure; each time, the web site came up right away.
The problem each time however, was that I could not log in. A call to Memory Express didn't help, but did suggest calling Linksys directly. Which I did. Despite all of the documentation, there actually is no user name. That field is left blank. So much for the docs saying the user name to use being "admin."
The sad thing is that, it seems, some of NetGear's equipment is the same.
It took just a few minutes to get an active wireless connection up and running with a loaned laptop. I used the laptop to do a wireless "ssh -X" to my server, and fired up a couple X applications. Everything worked like a charm. In our new home, I plan on using the wireless connection for the media player when I get one built. In the short term, I now know I can connect the laptop to a wireless network and use it to run apps, particularly Thunderbird, on my server.
